Next week the ATEC team will head to Parliament House for face to face meetings with more than 20 MPs and Senators including discussions Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham, Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism Jonathon Duniam, Immigration Minister David Coleman, and Chair of the Coalition Friends of Tourism Trent Zimmerman.  We will be talking about some of the most important issues facing our industry including the competitiveness of our tourist visa processes, a long term sustainable funding strategy to enable Tourism Australia to compete globally, and to highlight the critical importance of ensuring the Beyond 2020 Tourism Strategy, currently under discussion, contains a balanced approach between demand drivers and the ability to deliver quality, sustainable tourism experiences – a balanced growth strategy is the goal.

Importantly, we want to insure our politicians understand the value of our industry to both the national and their local economy and seek their support in championing regional dispersal and industry development as key actions we want to see from the next stage of strategising for our industry.

On the event front - I’m pleased to report that registrations for Meeting Place 19 in Brisbane are now officially in record territory with our B2B Buyers/Seller workshops completely sold out and Buyer famils programs fully booked with limited seats available for the ELITE emerging leaders presentations and the Chairman’s CEO’s Thought Leaders Dinner – it’s all shaping up to be a great few days in Brisbane!

All the best,

Peter Shelley
